This month's devotional is by Christian

Sometimes we get caught up in the emotion of music and the ebb and flow of life. When this happens we tend to focus on us and the situation and the songs that come out of us are centered around us. We become centered on the concept of us in need of saving and our favorite songs become songs like "Came To My Rescue" and "Rescue" and such. I am not saying that these songs and prayers do not have their place and time. However, we tend to forget lessons that are taught to us in Job when his wife instructed him to curse God and die. Job at first looks at these circumstances and puts God on trial. God then responds though by stating that He (God) is responsible for the world. God then asks Job if he knows what it is like to be responsible for the world. Of course Job does not and it is at that moment that Job realizes the greatness of God. Imagine if he had remained focused on the circumstances. I think sometimes God feels like the cartoon God in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. When He appears to King Arthur and his knights they are groveling on the ground and he tells them to get up and stop groveling. They say "I'm sorry" and God says "and don't apologize! Every time I try to talk to someone it's sorry this and forgive me that and I'm not worthy..."

Hugh has talked in the last couple of weeks about how God's reasons are bigger and grander than anything we can understand. We have all found ourselves in that situation where everything around us seems hopeless.  Sometimes we focus on the situation and ultimately on ourselves and our need for rescue. We focus on our shortcoming and worship becomes about what we cannot do. We take our eyes off of the greatness, the majesty, the omnipotence, the power of God and focus on our inadequacies and our need for saving; in reality that is more than ever when our focus should be on those qualities of our Father God. I want to encourage you this week and in your prayer life to remember to praise God not for what He's done but simply because He is God. Simply because He is the Great I Am. Simply because He is Awesome, Majestic, Amazing, Powerful, Healer, Faithful, Loving, Jealous, Indescribable...in short - God.
