Construction crews began clearing land on May 10 for two building projects at the site of the former Rolling Hills golf course on Candies Lane. Westmore Church of God purchased the property in 2006 with plans to develop 100+ acres into a campus of ministries.

Bulldozers began clearing a site just off the former third hole fairway in preparation for construction of a new 14,400 square foot youth facility. The building will replace the former Oneighty center which was sold to The Church at Grace Point last November.

Earth moving will be taking place over the next several months to prepare approximately 40 acres between the former first hole tee box to the fairway of the third hole. A master plan unveiled in March shows this area as the location for a future sanctuary and educational complex for the Westmore Church, now located on 25th Street and Wolfe Drive.

The area being prepared includes moving tons of earth to level the property in preparation for a senior housing development which will be located on ten acres on what was the former driving range at the golf course. The new planned neighborhood, being supervised and managed by Cornerstone Senior Developments, Inc., will include 40 patio homes between one and three bedrooms and will be for residents age 55 and over. It will be named Heritage Place and will be the first phase of Legacy Retirement Village which may include more homes and a possible assisted living facility located on the property.

As part of the master plan, a new road will be constructed on the property which will enter off of Candies Lane. The road, tentatively named Legacy Parkway, will wind through the campus and is scheduled for completion by late summer or early fall. The Parkway will provide entrance to Heritage Place as well as the youth facility. It will eventually serve as the primary road that will connect other aspects of the master plan, including the new worship center, educational wing and athletic fields.

Since Westmore took possession of the property on November 1, 2006, many improvements have already taken place. The three primary buildings of the former Rolling Hills golf course have been completely renovated, including the former golf cart pavilion which has been converted into an outdoor event venue. It is currently being used for the youth program on Wednesday evenings until renovations to the former clubhouse are completed later this month. The clubhouse, which has been renamed The Lodge, will include a meeting area on the lower level complete with a stage and special lighting and sound. The upper level will serve as a recreation, food and fellowship area complete with a kitchen, café, seating, restrooms, and a gas fireplace. A restroom facility to serve outdoor activities was also renovated.
